Friday - January 30, 2009

Today, I switched to alpha team because GJ was not there. The alpha team is working in C4. In C4, we found a baby skeleton. Brant chopped of two of its fingers so we had to try and find them. I sifted the dirt and found one of the fingers. We were not able to find the other finger.

Block Day-January 28, 2009

Today was a block day and we only had one team because the seniors were on a field trip. We found some broken pieces of pots. We also made a little square that we dug down to the floor of the dig site. We found a little man in the little square. This was really fun. We found a lot the stuff that we material cultured.

Introduction-Tel Ya'ar

This is a picture of Tel Ya'ar and what we will uncover during the semester. Tel Ya'ar is a dig site at TWCA. It is located by the baseball fields. The site is 50 feet X 50 feet. There are 4 rows and 4 columns at the dig site. We will be digging by levels and uncovering ancient artifacts and material culture. I think this is going to be a fun class and I am giong to learn a lot.

January 27, 2009

Today we went outside and we found a lot of items. We found a couple of pots that were broken into pieces. We also found some burned wood. Today our square C1 we traded GJ for Analisa. This is a picture of a broken piece of pottery.

First Cleaning Day, January 26, 2009

Today was our first cleaning day. We filled the buckets with the pottery in it with water. Then we cleaned broken pieces of pottery and a rock with a toothbrush. Finally, we dumped out the water in the sink. The other team only had one item. We also went over our blogs.

Friday - January 23, 2009

Today I was not in class because the ninth grade class went to Sam Houston. I hope my square made progress and had fun.

Wednesday - Janurary 21, 2009

Today was a block day and we took elevations. We had to take a lot of elevations today because our square is not flat. Today Ashlee became our square leader. We dug a lot of dirt today and it was fun. We found some burned wood but that is it.

Tuesday - January 20, 2009

Today was fun because we split into teams and my team opened a new square. We are the Bravo team and we are working on square C1. Today we just put up string and stakes to outline our square. We only have three people in our square. We do not have a team leader yet. I think tomorrow we get to start digging and I am excited to start working on our square.

Friday - January 16, 2009

Today we stayed inside to learn more about elevations and how to use a transit. We also learned about graphing the elevations when you are a square leader.

The First Day - January 14, 2009

Today was our first block day. During the first part of class Mr. Thames showed us a power point and he got us pizza. During the second part of class we went to Tel Ya'ar. We removed the tarps off Tel Ya'ar that were covering it over Christmas break. After that we went to D4 and we made the walls straight. Today we learned how to use the tools.
